what does she do?

while "real" book collectors are looking for first editions by distinguished authors, book-grrl is scouring flea markets and thrift shops for dog-eared, heavily marked and scribbled in copies of text and reference books that no teacher would dare bring near a classroom today.

why does she do it?

while book-grrl does not limit herself to recycling old text books, these books make excellent source material, they have almost no value, and are non-recyclable. book-grrl would never knowingly destroy a book that someone would want, but but book-grrl does have a love/hate relationship with old books that she believes is at the root of her obsession, for more on that, see book-grrl's artists statement.

how does she do it?

well, not much magic there. the process by which old books are saved from the landfill and put into the recycle bin is fairly simple. the combination of book-cloth on board, and nasty-ass horse-glue is what makes hardbounds trash instead of recycling. if one simply wants to recycle old books, rip the covers off. book-grrl has a somewhat lighter touch and soaks the covers off in order to reuse them.
